France boosts security at places of worship after New Zealand mosque attack

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said an Australian national arrested after the attack was an "extremist, right-wing violent terrorist".
The attack, thought to be the deadliest against Muslims in the West in modern times, was immediately dubbed terrorism by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, as she guided a shocked nation on one of its "darkest days".
"London stands with the people of Christchurch in the face of this horrific terror attack", he said.
He confirmed media reports that the gunman, who identified himself as Brenton Tarrant and mowed down worshippers in two mosques in the southern New Zealand city of Christchurch, was an Australian-born citizen.
Police Commissioner Mike Bush said 49 people had been killed at two mosques and one man in his late 20s charged with murder.
"An attack against peaceful people gathering for prayer is shocking in its cruelty and cynicism", Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
Authorities have not elaborated on who they detained.
"We have one person in custody but we are unsure if there are other people".
Ms Ardern said the events in Christchurch represented "an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence" and acknowledged many of those affected may be migrants and refugees.
Bush also asked all mosques in New Zealand to close their doors for safety reasons, urging "anyone who was thinking of going to a mosque anywhere in New Zealand today not to go. They have no place in New Zealand". Police do not believe there are any other suspects but said it was still an open investigation. A police statement gave no further detail of how it might be linked to the attacks.
World leaders condemned the attacks and offered condolences.
