Federation Internationale de Football Association votes for new Club World Cup, Euro clubs confirm boycott

  • Fifa grants Infantino’s lucrative Club World Cup wish

The training was to gauge whether to use the technology at the tournament, with world football's governing body approving its use at a Fifa Council meeting in Miami on Friday.

The decision to award the rights to India was taken at the FIFA Council meeting in Miami on Friday (March 15). "This is important today because club football is evolving, is moving at a different pace in different parts of the world and it's our duty, our responsibility to make sure that we encourage professional club football all over the world".

They said they are "firmly against any approval of a revised Club World Cup at this point in time and confirm that no ECA clubs would take part to such a competition".

Infantino admitted there have been "differences of opinion" since he first floated the idea previous year and referred to "constructive dialogue" with Europe that he hoped to build on.

That would mean it starting nine days after a period of 2022 World Cup qualifiers and finishing just one day before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Infantino has been pushing for approval to beef up the Club World Cup ever since Federation Internationale de Football Association negotiated a secret $25 billion deal with a (still not fully identified) group of worldwide investors, money the Federation Internationale de Football Association president needs to fulfil his election pledge to massively increase funding to FIFA's member nations.

In its letter, the ECA strongly criticised Infantino for failing to reveal more details about who is providing the financial backing for the new competition and ignoring its concerns about the impact on players.

Trump issues first veto after rebuke of border order
He had promised a veto of the resolution ending his emergency declaration as soon as the measure was circulated on Capitol Hill. The president defied Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Congressional Democrats, and the " dirty dozen " Senate Republicans who joined them.

The current Club World Cup has been structured on a similar scale, with club teams representing the regional champions around the world coming together to play in a short tournament. "If the calendar is not modified, of course we can not agree".

"We have four-five venues in mind and we will finalise them soon". "So, I think it's a natural progression of that competition".

"Our openness was based on our commitment to hosting a FIFA World Cup that benefits our region and its people in the best way possible".

As host country, India automatically qualifies for the 16-team showpiece event.

Infantino tried to find an agreement but the meetings and talks held in the hours prior served no goal.

As a result, due to their "neutrality" in the situation, Kuwait and Oman are the most likely options to co-host games at the 2022 World Cup.

The Council approved the idea by 25 votes to seven, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino later saying he was "extremely happy" the idea had been backed.
