It was widely rumored that Tannehill, once expected to be the team's savior, would leave.

Tannehill's agent confirmed Friday that the quarterback has been traded to the Tennessee Titans. Miami will receive a fourth-round pick in 2020 and a seventh-rounder in 2019, while sending Tannehill and a 2019 sixth-round pick to the Titans. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the deal is a one-year contract worth $7 million guaranteed, plus a chance to increase to $12 million based on playing time. Miami then got involved with Teddy Bridgewater, but the former first-round pick ultimately elected to return to the Saints to backup Drew Brees on a similar deal to what Tannehill is receiving in Tennessee.

Tannehill will back up Marcus Mariota at quarterback. He became the Dolphins' starting quarterback as a rookie in 2012 and has still never taken a postseason snap. He also ranks second all-time on Miami's career passer rating list, behind only Pennington (94.5) and ahead of Dan Marino (86.4).

In 2018, Tannehill started 11 games for the Dolphins, and he completed 176-of-274 passes for 1,979 yards and 17 touchdowns, with nine interceptions.
