The popularity of K-Pop is taking a dive - at least in the stock market - after South Korean police confirmed a member of the Big Bang boy band is being investigated as part of a probe into prostitution at Seoul nightclubs.

The club was reportedly known as 'Seungri's Club, ' a reference to 28-year-old K-pop star Lee Seung-hyun, known as Seungri.

In a statement he apologised to his fans, and promised to "sincerely participate in investigations into all allegations".

On Sunday, South Korean police raided a club associated with the singer to gather evidence and arrested Seungri. The Seoul nightclub was owned by Seungri at that time.

News of Seungri being potentially involved in this illegal trade surfaced last month after local media disclosed social media messages that sparked allegations that Seungri attempted to buy illicit sex services for potential foreign investors, reports stated.

This is Seungri. At this point, I think it would be for the best if I retire from the entertainment industry.

It is alleged that Seungri tried to obtain prostitutes for clients through a group chat on the messaging app KakaoTalk in 2015. "As for the ongoing probe, I will take the investigation seriously to clear all the allegations", he said.

Cardinal George Pell, Former Vatican Official, Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison
Pell voluntarily returned to Australia in 2017 to face an array of child abuse charges, most of which have since been dropped. The royal commission was critical of Pell's predecessor in Melbourne, Archbishop Frank Little, who died in 2008.

"And I can't let this cause further damage to others".

Big Bang's Seungri announces he's leaving the Kpop industry after 10 years.

"I give my heartfelt, honest thanks to fans at home and overseas who gave their love for the past 10 years, and I think this should be it for the sake of the reputation of YG and Big Bang".

In 2011, band leader G-Dragon was investigated for smoking marijuana, which is illegal in South Korea, but was released without charge.

How big a deal are Bigbang?

The rep added, "He was in a deeper pain because it all happened right before his military enlistment", and said, "To be honest, nothing has been clearly revealed regarding Seungri throughout the month and a half long police investigation." .
