Facebook temporarily pulled Warren ads about breaking it up

  • U.S. Senator Confirms She Wants to Break Up Apple in Interview

Facebook very provocatively pulled the senator's ads calling for a big tech breakup, with a lame excuse that the social network's logo was misused in the ads; later Facebook said it would restore the ads but the act of removing them shows the social network isn't afraid of proving Warren's point about having too much power. Temporarily. Facebook later reversed its decision and reinstated ads published by the Senator. A spokesperson told the outlet the only reason the ads were removed is because they violated the platform's policies by using their corporate logo.

Any company with annual global revenue of over US$25 billion ($36.5b) and which owns an app store or similar marketplace would be designated a "platform utility" by Warren's government, and be broken up.

The adverts were placed by the campaign for Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren.

The US lawmaker from MA announced her plans last week to break up the tech giants, arguing in a blog post that they've "hurt small businesses and stifled innovation".

Pelosi: Impeaching Trump 'just not worth it'
Hours after Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi reaffirmed her stance on not impeaching President Donald Trump freshman Rep. Pelosi said in an interview with The Washington Post that "I'm not for impeachment" of Trump.

That, however, did not stop Warren from using the platform provided by one of her adversaries, Facebook, to place her campaign ad urging her supporters to join her quest in disbanding it, along with Amazon and Google. Facebook declined to say how Warren's political ads had been targeted - whether it was human reviewers or the company's artificial intelligence tools. "We break them apart, that backs up the influence a little bit, and it makes absolutely sure that they're not engaged in these unfair practices that stomp out every little business that's trying to get a start". "But in their rise to power, they've bulldozed competition, used our private information for profit, and tilted the playing field in their favor".

Warren is campaigning on a plan that includes breaking up large tech companies that she believes have grown too powerful.

Warren was quick to take a hit at Facebook for the whole mess over on Twitter. Some remained because they did not use the logos of those firms. The ads were ultimately restored to the site.

Ms Warren responded to the removal of the adverts in a tweet saying Facebook's ability to "censor" what people saw was a good demonstration that it had too much power. Thanks for restoring my posts. Facebook's database of political ads show that the ads are now running on the social network.
