  • The New Aladdin Trailer is Here

After the initial photos for Aladdin were released late previous year, and a brief scene at the end of the second teaser showed Genie in all his blue glory, fans were more than skeptical about Will Smith's take on the classic Robin Williams character. Getting a closer look, it very much feels like Smith's take on Genie is quite literally just his Hitch character, but I'm interested to see how that full arc plays out.

Mena Massoud's Aladdin and Naomi Scott's Princess Jasmine take off on a magic carpet ride in the new trailer, performing for the first time a snippet of this film's take on "A Whole New World".

"Aladdin" stampeded past "Dumbo" and "The Lion King" Tuesday to steal Disney's live-action remake spotlight.

No surprises here if you're familiar with the original, but it's the most coherent look yet at the live-action remake.

Apple to announce Netflix rival later this month
In addition to that, it was also rumoured that Apple will be announcing its TV streaming service through this event which is apt given the teaser.

We've already seen peeks at Disney's new adaptation of its animated classic, but this is the most compelling reason yet to get excited about the Guy Ritchie-directed film. #WillSmith's blue genie looks awesome, and I'm ok with this new take on Jafar.

Get push notifications with news, features and more. Aladdin opens in theaters on May 24th and stars Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar.

So far, Smith's second introduction seems to be going over better on Twitter, where nostalgia for Aladdin's infectious music is helping to offset his jarring appearance.
