Former Miss Teen Universe dies aged 19 after suffering heart attack

Van der Zee was crowned Miss Teen Universe in 2017.

The Holland native had failed to show up for breakfast with her parents at a resort in Austria.

Former Miss Teenager Universe Lotte van der Zee passed away at the age of 20 after suffering a heart attack in Westendorf, Austria on February 20 and being placed into a medically induced coma.

Speaking to local media Mrs Van der Zee said they had made the decision to "let her go" on Wednesday after she suffered organ failure.

Heartbroken parents Bert and Eugeniek had updated her Instagram followers on the devastating news that she had been taken ill last month.

"Our pearl, our everything passed away on Wednesday evening March 6th at 22:47", they wrote on her Instagram account.

Her parents thanked van der Zee's fans for their "support and heartwarming messages".

The Dutch model was in Austria with her family on a skiing trip when she suddenly fell ill, according to her parents' statement.

The following morning, her mother found her unwell in bed and she stayed with her throughout the day - she was the one to administer CPR following her heart attack.

"She was helped to the nearest hospital where she got into a coma and is since then kept asleep under intensive supervision of the doctors in order to monitor her health". "A feeling that swiflty escalated into sudden cardiac arrest", they wrote.

Lotte's heart attack happened a day before her 20th birthday, with her parents making the decision to turn off life support two weeks later.

"We are grateful for the support of everyone and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love and positivity in these times when she needs it most".

The Dutch model was days away from her 20th birthday when she passed away earlier this week.

Lotte spent two weeks in a coma before her untimely death.

Tests were being done to deterine what caused the heart attack.

Alongside the emotional post, they shared a picture of their daughter.
