80s heartthrob Jan-Michael Vincent dies at age 74, TMZ reports

Jan-Michael Vincent, the heartthrob actor known for his role in the 1980s action series "Airwolf", has died.

In a report published by The Hollywood Reporter, Vincent, who battled with drug and alcohol abuse, died at Mission Hospital's Memorial Campus in Asheville, North Carolina.

Vincent played a stuntman opposite Burt Reynolds in 1978's Hooper, and starred in renowned surfer film Big Wednesday (1978) and alongside Kim Basinger in Hard Country (1981).

The document shows Vincent was 74 at the time of his death and that no autopsy was performed.

His screen credits dwindled amid a series of arrests for drunken driving and barroom altercations.

In 2014 he revealed he was an alcoholic, telling the National Enquirer: "I'm an alcoholic". He was also involved in three auto accidents which he barely survived and received severe injuries from, including permanent damage to his vocal cords and three broken vertebrae in his neck.

In 2012 a serious infection resulted in part of his right leg being amputated.

Born in Colorado and raised in Hanford, California, he went to Ventura College in Southern California after high school.

Vincent's career started in the late '60s, when he appeared on such TV series as Lassie and Bonanza. He then had a starring role in the soap opera "The Survivors" opposite George Hamilton.
