Tesla's V3 Supercharger cuts down charging times by half

According to a blog post, the Supercharger V3 can juice up a TeslaModel 3 Long Range with enough power to travel 75 miles in just five minutes at peak efficiency. It includes entirely new hardware, including grid-connected batteries to act as a buffer to stabilize electrical loads (and reduce demand charges from utilities).
The push will take Tesla's network to delivering 250 kilowatts, up from 120 kw as more fast-charging infrastructure is built. This will be available only on Model 3 for now, but Tesla promises both Models S and X will receive software updates to enable this rate of charge. A new 1MW power cabinet with a similar design to our utility-scale products supports peak rates of up to 250kW per auto. 145 kW is the charging rate of a current shared pair of Tesla's Superchargers, so the fix seems to be a simple software unlocking of the max speed of a single vehicle charging on a shared pair. The Model Y SUV, due to be revealed next week, will likely also be able to use the system because it shares technical elements with the Model 3 saloon.
Power is delivered to the auto via a new liquid-cooled cable design that Tesla claims is actually lighter and more flexible than the current air-cooled cable.
For now, Tesla has only installed its preview Supercharger V3s in Fremont, California and will only make them available to members of its early access program.
This is good news for Tesla owners, but also for Tesla's network because it means cars will spend on average 50 percent less time recharging, meaning every Supercharging location can handle more cars every day.
V3 Supercharging is based on a new 1MW power cabinet, which supports peak rates of up to 250kW per vehicle, up from earlier 120kW. Tesla specifically mentions this in 2019.7.11's release notes.
