The south is set to be temporarily hit by a band of wet weather, while snow is expected to fall in higher part of Wales and England's Peak District.

The warning of high winds gusting at up to gale force will last for the whole of Cornwall and all but the very North East of Devon - over Exmoor - until 8pm today.

The Met Office issued a number of weather warnings for floods and strong winds on Saturday, as Storm Erik brought gusts of nearly 70mph that caused disruption on several roads, with emergency services warning motorists to take care.

"That (hill snow) will clear through Sunday morning, with blustery showers following behind".

Storm Erik came with a status orange weather warning for Donegal, Mayo and Galway and wind gusts at times were really powerful.

A statement on the Met Office website said: "A swathe of very strong westerly winds is expected to push across Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England through Saturday, easing from the west during the day".
