The White House says President Donald Trump will call for optimism and unity in today's State of the Union address, using the moment to attempt a reset after two years of bitter partisanship and deeply personal attacks. It comes at a perilous time in Trump's presidency, with the threat of another government shutdown looming due to a partisan impasse over construction of a wall on the US border with Mexico.
"I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown", Trump wrote to Pelosi, who was on a bus with other lawmakers departing for the trip when the president sent his letter.
The White House said Joshua is a fan of science, art and history and hopes to pursue a career that has something to do with animals.
Asked on Friday whether he would declare a national emergency during his speech, Trump said, "I don't want to say", and instead urged reporters to tune in to the speech.
President Trump stressed the Democrat Party is playing "bad politics" with border security, which is hurting America's national interest. Democrats have refused to acquiesce to his demands for a border wall, and Republicans are increasingly unwilling to shut down the government to help him fulfil his signature campaign pledge.
According to a report by Goldman Sachs, Trump may agree to sign the conference report but, at the same time, invoke his emergency powers to fund a border wall if the report calls for lower-than-expected border security appropriations.
He added, "In his mind, the way to get there is the construction of a physical wall".
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY accused Trump of "blatant hypocrisy", saying the president may want to talk about unity on Tuesday but "spends the other 364 days of the year dividing us". He predicts that Trump will offer updates on where the United States stands in the conflicts in Syria, North Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Compensation for Nick Foles could be a third-round pick
And, it's clear he wants to do it because in order to void the contract Foles must pay the Eagles $2 million. The Eagles have informed Foles they are picking up that option, according to ESPN's Tim McManus .
Trump and his top aides have also hinted that he is likely to use the address to announce a major milestone in the fight against Isis (Islamic State) in Syria.
"At a moment when our nation needs to hear from leaders who can unite for a common goal, I am honored to be delivering the Democratic State of the Union response", Abrams tweeted. "There's a lot of context there that each side will selectively choose to focus on what serves their objective in terms of the messaging".
"Stacey Abrams is the face that the Democratic Party would like to project". Since then, she has emerged as a "bona fide leader" among Democrats, said Jaime Harrison, a senior counselor and co-chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Abrams will be the first African-American woman to give the speech responding to the presidential address, according to all archival research on the speech from both the House and Senate historian offices.
Stacey Abrams, who almost became both the first African-American and first woman governor of Georgia, landed a few jabs against President Donald Trump after his State of the Union address while calling for an economic boost for working and middle-class Americans.
The president ticked through a litany of issues with crossover appeal, including boosting infrastructure, lowering prescription drug costs and combating childhood cancer. But whether his message of unity resonates with the public remains to be seen, said Panagopoulos and Vicino. But beyond the substance of Trump's speech, Panagopoulos said that he will be watching for what kind of tone the president adopts.
"I am asking you to defend our very unsafe southern border out of love and devotion to our fellow citizens and to our country", he said.
