Joe Schmidt has named his Ireland team to face Scotland at Murrayfield in the Six Nations on Saturday.

Injuries to Robbie Henshaw and Garry Ringrose, who picked up a knock in training, have led to a start for Chris Farrell at outside centre, with Rob Kearney returning at full-back after a thigh injury.

Devin Toner has been ruled out of the remainder of Ireland's Six Nations championship with an ankle injury.

"We could be struck with a similar circumstance to what we had four years ago", Ireland coach Joe Schmidt said of the changes, referencing the 2015 World Cup when his side did not have the depth to cope with a string of frontline absentees.

"It's just a bit of aggravation after having a knock", Schmidt said of Henshaw. It's a knock on top of a knock.

Beirne is targeting a return from his knee injury in time for Ireland's round three match against Italy on 24 February, while Henderson is hoping to recover from a finger injury in time to feature in the final two rounds against France and Wales. But if you get another bump on it, it debilitates you quickly and then you have to make another change.

"So he'll be a loss, as any great player is, but when these things happen it gives an opportunity for somebody else and I thought Quinn Roux was great when he came on".

"We're just going to have to forge ahead, but it's an exciting opportunity to give Chris Farrell a run against Scotland. He's coming back to form after a long lay-off", Schmidt added.

James Ryan and Quinn Roux were playing Scotland this weekend, with Ultan Dillane the backup for his first test since November 2017.

Captain Rory Best joins Cian Healy and Tadhg Furlong in the front-row with James Ryan partnering Roux in the second-row.
