Where Did THAT Come From? Hubble Discovers Galactic Neighbor Bedin 1

Using images from the Hubble Space Telescope, researchers studying distant, dim stars accidentally stumbled upon something they hadn't anticipated: An entirely undocumented galaxy sitting around 30 million light-years from Earth.

Astronomers, with the help of the Hubble Space Spyglass, have just done a startling opening: the constellation, considered component of our own star system, actually pertain to a previously unexplored star system, which is located 30 million light years away in a particularly remote of space area. Almost all the stars astronomers measured in Bedin 1 are small and old, implying the dwarf galaxy made all its stars in a single burst of activity some 10 billion years ago.

Nestled behind the cluster's crowded star population, a dwarf galaxy was spotted for the first time, NASA said.

The different wavelength observations allow viewers to examine the galaxy's structure, discerning between older and younger stars, and spot features, such black holes and nebulas. Due to these, scientists have determined that it is a dwarf spheroidal galaxy, according to a report published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters. There's a chance this small swirl of stars may be connected to a larger nearby galaxy, but the two are far apart and it's not clear they have ever interacted.

Bedin 1 appears on the lower end of this Hubble image of globular cluster NGC 6752. 36 galaxies of this type are already known to exist in the Local Group of Galaxies, 22 of which are satellite galaxies of the Milky Way.

Gomez to have surgery to boost recovery
Speaking to Sky Sports after Sunday's game about Liverpool FC, Guardiola said: "I understand pressure, pressure to win the games". We are still in the race and if we dropped points or whatever, then it's still a point against Leicester .

So with Bedin 1 found, it's one down, 1,999,999,999,999 to go.

It's estimated to be roughly 13 billion years old based on the properties of its stars, meaning it is nearly as old as the universe itself.

"This makes it possibly the most isolated small dwarf galaxy discovered to date", the ESA announcement said.

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has been peering into the unknown and infinite universe for almost 30 years. However, its remote location and the fact that it's not near any other galaxies has led researchers to label it "a living fossil from the early Universe".
