Path forward for Kavanaugh could be like Clarence Thomas’

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's accusations are "even more absurd because these people were teenagers when this supposed alleged incident took place", Cramer told the 1310 KNOX DJ.

"These are teenagers who evidently were drunk, according to her own statement", Cramer said.

"They were drunk. Nothing evidently happened in it all, even by her own accusation", Cramer added.

Kavanaugh's confirmation has been brought to a halt by allegations that he attempted to rape psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford when they were both in high school in the 1980s. To insinuate that an assault shouldn't be taken seriously because it "never really went anywhere" is as unsafe as it is offensive.

Biden chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1991 when Hill gave testimony alleging sexual harassment by then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), doesn't exactly back away from the thrust of remarks made Friday on a local radio show that Ford's accusations against Kavanaugh are "absurd".

"Congressman Cramer's comments are disturbing and they don't reflect the values of North Dakota", Heitkamp said in a statement issued through her campaign.

Kavanaugh has denied being at the party and the allegation of sexually and physically assaulting Ford.

Update 2: Solicitor General Noel Francisco will now oversee the Mueller investigation, according to rules cited by Vox . The White House accepted his resignation, Bloomberg reported .

Biden said he thinks an FBI investigation into the allegations should be conducted and urged the committee to learn from the lessons of the Thomas hearings 27 years ago, stressing they should not engage in "character assassination".

The race is widely considered a strong opportunity for Republicans to flip a seat, since President Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the state by more than 35 percentage points. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation, which has rekindled questions of Biden's leadership of the Judiciary Committee as he considers another presidential run.

And she joins me now.

Ford at first sent her complaint to Democratic Rep. Anna Eshoo of California, who sent it to Sen. After initially saying that she wanted an FBI investigation before she testified, Ford's lawyer said she could testify next week if the Senate would agree to "terms that are fair and which ensure her safety".

"The woman should be given the benefit of the doubt and not be abused again by the system", Biden said in an interview with NBC Friday. She said he pinned her on a bed, tried to undress her and clamped his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream, and that she escaped only when a friend of his jumped on the bed and knocked them all over.

"Why would any good person ever put themselves forward to be a judge, an appellate court judge, a Supreme Court justice, frankly a member of Congress or the United States Senate or governor or anything else, if this is the new standard?"

Nicole Saharsky, a partner at the law firm Gibson Dunn, said during a panel at Georgetown Law: "Depending on what happens with the rest of confirmation process, the court might feel kind of battered and like it needs to take things more slowly".
