In an unprecedented move, Meghan invited her to the event, and they appeared together in public for the first time since May's royal wedding.

The Duchess of Sussex stood behind a tabletop grill and helped cook while her mother and husband watched on proudly.

After lending a hand in the cooking and preparation, Markle and her guests-among them members of the local community, the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Center and representatives from the publishers of the book, Ebury Press-dined together and tasted the homemade dishes featured in the cookbook, including coconut chicken curry, aubergine masala and caramelized plum upside-down cake. "I'm just as excited as you are".

Addressing guests at the lunch in Perk's Field, close to Kensington Palace, she said: "Working on this project for the past nine months has been a tremendous labour of love".

The Prince was accompanying his wife Meghan in the grounds of Kensington Palace this afternoon where she was launching a recipe book in support of victims of the Grenfell tragedy.

The duchess wrote the foreword for Together, which is in bookshops from Thursday but has been available to order online for a few days.

Both Prince Harry and Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, were also in attendance to support Markle's first solo charity project as a royal.

The book launch took place hours after it was revealed the Duchess had knocked both Jamie Oliver and JK Rowling out of the charts - before her book even went on sale. Speaking of the Duchess' experience at the kitchen, she said: "She felt very much at home".

They called their project Hubb, the Arabic word for love, and since January - Meghan has been visiting and cooking with them. "That there are 12 countries represented in this one small room, is pretty outstanding", she continued.

"The power of food is more than just the meal itself - it is the story behind it", And when you get to know the story of the recipe, you get to know the person behind it", she said. "To be able to celebrate what connects us rather than what divides us, I believe, is the ethos of Together".
