The company has announced a number of high-profile projects, including a Star Wars series overseen by "Jungle Book" director Jon Favreau, a show based on "High School Musical", and a live-action "Lady and the Tramp" film.

Last night, we learned that Disney's forthcoming streaming service (which has yet to be named or given a launch date) is challenging Netflix for the Streaming Giant crown in a most aggressive way: they're giving Tom Hiddleston's Loki and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch their very own TV shows. Marvel Studios will produce the shows, with Kevin Feige involved in a hands-on capacity.

Storylines for each series are still being teased out, but Disney appears to be holding back some significant fire power for the big screen.

Loki, Scarlet Witch, Other Marvel Heroes to Get Own TV Series on Disney Streaming Service (EXCLUSIVE)
Disney's streaming service will reportedly include limited series starring Loki, Scarlet Witch, and more

Now a report late yesterday by Variety states that Disney is planning to use the service to release shorter limited episode content from the MCU, which will showcase some of the characters who will not be getting solo movies. All of these items put together will surely inspire viewers to sign up for Disney's service. They will likely remain, produced under the Marvel TV brand, while the Disney Play shows will be considered the property of Marvel Studios. Or let's go all out here, how cool would it be to explore the Hulk in a TV setting since Marvel cannot now make a stand-alone movie for him, again this could be set prior to Avengers in the MCU timeline.

There was a time when something like this would seem unthinkable, but Disney has the power and the money to make it a reality. By placing Tom Hiddleston or Elizabeth Olsen in a TV series, it appears that the Netflix shows are being neglected somewhat. Variety's report also suggests that the Loki and Scarlet Witch limited series would have larger budgets than traditional shows. Anyone who has wanted to see more of these characters will finally get their wish.

It's also not hard to see that, though, that while these series certainly sound ambitious to say the least, they could definitely be the thing that lures enough people to check out the platform - and maybe even help it start to eat away at Netflix's edge.
