Manafort's plea deal follows agreements that Mueller's team had already reached with Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn and Manafort's former deputy Rick Gates.

The network said could be pleading guilty to avoid the stress and expense of a second trial following his conviction in Virginia on tax fraud and money laundering charges.

ABC says the deal will be announced in court on Friday, heading off the upcoming trial.

Manafort's lawyers have been in talks with Mueller's team about a plea deal for at least the last few weeks.

News of the agreement comes the same month as Manafort's second trial is set to begin. It's unclear whether Manafort has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors. "Paul Manafort is a good man", he said after the Virginia jury returned its verdict. Doing so could jeopardize his chances at a presidential pardon.

The prosecutions of Manafort arose from Mueller's investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 US election and whether Trump's campaign colluded with Moscow to help him win.

More than 60 people had to be rescued in another town as a cinderblock motel collapsed at the height of the storm's fury. But it's not only North Carolinians who live along the coast who are being impacted by severe flooding.

ABC News reported Wednesday that Manafort's attorneys wanted a plea deal that did not require him to cooperate with the Mueller probe.

One potential downside for the president is that if Manafort pleads guilty, Mueller can subpoena him to testify before a grand jury after he is sentenced.

None of the charges against Manafort related to collusion with Russian Federation.

He spearheaded the campaign when WikiLeaks published thousands of emails that Russian Federation had stolen from the Democratic National Committee.

If Manafort simply pleads guilty and makes clear that he hasn't given evidence to the government, that could increase his favor with President Trump, who already has faulted what he calls Manafort's "unfair" treatment by the Justice Department.
