'60 Minutes' Chief Fager Fired From CBS After Violating Policy

  • Story alleges a darker side of'60 Minutes

Fager said in a statement today that "my language was harsh, and despite the fact that journalists receive harsh demands for fairness all the time, CBS did not like it".

Now the reporter who received the message has revealed its contents.

CBS correspondent Jericka Duncan spoke out Wednesday night about a text message exchange she had with "60 Minutes" executive producer Jeff Fager over the weekend that pushed Fager out of the company.

Longtime producer of the popular CBS News program "60 Minutes", Jeff Fager, stepped down from his position on Wednesday, after violating "company policy", new memos show.

"Jeff Fager is leaving the company effective immediately", Rhodes wrote.

Fager is the third major figure at CBS to lose his job in the past year over misconduct allegations, following news anchor Charlie Rose last November and CBS Corp. "I don't care if 30 more women come forward and allege this kind of stuff", board member Arnold Kopelson is alleged to have said in a meeting shortly afterwards, "Les is our leader and it wouldn't change my opinion of him".

France World Cup star cops huge fine for drink-driving
The court heard police in an unmarked auto spotted Lloris' Porsche Panamera driving at 15mph (24kph) in a 30mph (48kph) zone. The Daily Mail tabloid said Lloris registered 100 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath in a police check.

60 Minutes executive editor Bill Owens will manage the show until Fager's replacement is found, Rhodes said, adding, "This action today is not directly related to the allegations surfaced in press reports, which continue to be investigated independently".

CBS is now the most-watched network in the US.

The investigation into Fager by an outside law firm is not complete. "60 Minutes" is, as Rhodes notes in his memo, "the most significant news broadcast on television", having debuted in 1968 and served as the investigative home for such television inquisitors as Mike Wallace, Morley Safer, Ed Bradley and Lesley Stahl. She also claims that Fager told her to apologize to the other producer to "mitigate conflict in the office". Both Moonves and Fager have been accused by multiple women of sexual harassment and assault, which was allegedly part of a broader hostile workplace for women at CBS.

In response to that allegation, Fager told CBS News, "This is an outrageous claim and it didn't happen".

Fager said he would not have thought that one note would have resulted in a dismissal after 36 years at the network, "but it did". Rhodes was then brought in as news president, taking over full management of the news division when Fager went back to exclusively running "60 Minutes".
