Trump claims he fell asleep watching Obama speech

Until now, Mr Obama had been reluctant to publicly criticise his successor, although last week he appeared to chide Mr Trump, without naming him, in a eulogy for the late Republican Senator John McCain.

He criticized the divisive politics of the Trump era and took aim at recent Republican policy moves such as the $1.5 trillion in tax cuts that ballooned the nation's budget deficit. On the other hand: President Trump. The president has repeatedly called on Sessions to fire special counsel Robert Mueller and earlier this week blamed the Justice Department for indicting two incumbent Republican members of Congress, arguing the moves could jeopardize their seats.

"It's not conservative. It sure isn't normal. It's radical. It's a vision that says the protection of our power and those who back us is all that matters".

"If you don't like what's going on right now, and you shouldn't - do not - complain", Obama said. "These are extraordinary times, and they are risky times", he added.

"It should not be a partisan issue to say that we do not pressure the attorney general or the Federal Bureau of Investigation to use the criminal justice system as a cudgel to punish our political opponents".

In fact, the previous POTUS went ahead and used Trump's name in the speech, something he's never done before after his time in the White House was over.

Remember, everyone - you have to vote!

Obama's speech might help Trump. Doug Jones's upset victory in Alabama instead of a more high-profile public appearances. Wilson has repeatedly denounced Trump as a curse for right-wing politics.

Obama is still the erudite statesman we've known for years, but he just seems looser, less measured.

Economic Crisis: South Africa enters recession for first time since 2009
But mining, construction, electricity, finance and personal services experienced growth in the second quarter. The SA Reserve Bank has estimated that the GDP growth will average at 1.2% in 2018.

The former president also applauded the women who have taken a stand in the Me Too movement, and the teens of Parkland, Florida, who are standing up to gun violence and the National Rifle Association.

"This moment really is different". Obama's latest foray into politics is likely to ignite Republicans, including Trump. And he is wary of outshining the next generation of liberal leaders, whose success he has described as the greatest ambition of his post-presidency.

Trump, at a rally later in the day, said he had been asked what he thought of Obama's speech.

"We're supposed to stand up to discrimination", he said. "The biggest threat to our democracy is indifference".

On Thursday, the former president is scheduled to campaign in Cleveland for Richard Cordray's campaign for Ohio Governor.

Obama is also expected to campaign in IL and Pennsylvania later this month and headline a fundraiser for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee in New York City, which is looking to reverse gerrymandering that has helped Republicans in some congressional districts.

"It shouldn't be Democratic or Republican to say we don't target certain groups of people based on what they look like or how they pray".

Obama's involvement in the midterm campaign carries risks for Democrats. Further campaign stops will be announced later in the fall. "You can't opt out because you don't feel sufficiently inspired by this or that particular candidate".
