Subtropical Storm Ernesto looks set to bring wet and windy weather to parts of the United Kingdom this weekend, as it makes its way over the Atlantic.

Currently, the sub-tropical storm is moving north-west across the Atlantic towards north-western Europe.

Tropical storm winds range from 39mph and 73mph - above that is hurricane-force.

It's on course to reach Ireland by Saturday night.

If Lane maintains a more westward trajectory like Hector did, it may pass far enough south of the islands to cause only showers, high surf and rip currents. Central and eastern Scotland, much of England, sunny spells but quite quickly the cloud thickens across central and western Scotland.

This will then turn heavier and more persistent through the afternoon, with a maximum temperature of around 20 °C.

Priyanka Chopra grieves the death of Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Vajpayee was among India's most popular politicians and a founding leader of the ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party. He suffered a stroke in 2009 and was also hospitalised that year with a serious respiratory infection.

'Ex-Ernesto will then merge with an Atlantic low pressure system.

Wind is expected across northern parts with spells of rain, mainly in the west. Winds will also be strong over Scotland and Northern Ireland.

A spokesperson for The Weather Channel said: "Ernesto will move into cooler waters in the next 24 hours and transition into a post-tropical system".

Ernesto will be picked up by the mid-latitude westerlies as it heads towards Britain.

Temperatures could soar into the 30Cs in southern England and London later next week with spells of glorious sunshine over the Bank Holiday weekend.

If you were planning a barbecue for this weekend you may want to rethink your plans as Ireland is in the path of a rather nasty-looking storm.
