  • Aretha Franklin performs'Respect at the 10th Annual Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards in Pasadena California in 2005

She passed away at home in Detroit from advanced pancreatic cancer. "In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every share - our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect".

Soon after news of her death was announced, celebrities took to social media to mourn the loss of the Queen of Soul. "The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds".

He continued, more warmly: "She's brought joy to millions of lives and her extraordinary legacy will thrive and inspire many generations to come. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this hard time". Famously, you'll see on the facade - there are photos of it - 'She's Home: Aretha Franklin'.

Aretha Franklin, who was born and rose to fame during the segregation era and went on to sing at the inauguration of the first black USA president, often used her talent, fortune and platform to inspire millions of black Americans and support the fight for racial equality.

"Thank you Aretha Franklin for getting me through tough days", Twitter user, Pablo, said. She would return to the nation's capitol in 2009 with a show-stopping rendition of "My Country Tis of Thee" for the inauguration of president Obama. Two decades years later she was back to pay tribute to Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records.

"Respect" is more than just a soul track, and it's more than just a scorching anthem. She begins her solo with "The moment I wake up/Before I put on my makeup/I say a little" before backup singers chime in with "prayer for you".

Whether at Wrestlemania or the World Series, it can't be disputed that Aretha Franklin was one of the greatest of all time at opening a sporting event.

Turkey will emerge stronger from lira crisis despite row with United States : minister
When Kilic sought to tie conditions to Brunson's release, Bolton waved them aside and said there would be no negotiations. The decree also doubled tariffs on American cosmetics, rice, and coal, among other imports.

But here's the thing: "Respect" wasn't entirely Aretha Franklin's.

A Rolling Stone reviewer said Franklin "sings like never before on record" on that live album.

"She will be missed!" he tweeted of the legendary singer.

"Salute to the Queen". Her father was a church minister and her mother a prolific pianist and gospel singer.

"She gave so much to so many people, from Dr. King, to Mandela, to Barack Obama", said Rev. Jesse Jackson, a longtime friend who visited her the day before her death.

Other hits include "Day Dreaming" (1972), "Jump to It" (1982), "Freeway of Love" (1985), and "A Rose Is Still A Rose" (1998). You'd be hard-pressed to name a voting-age citizen who doesn't know her name. She spent the last few months of her life outside the public eye as she dealt with her declining health. Her publicist told The Associated Press that she died surrounded by her family and friends. President George W. Bush awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.

In the movie, she performed "Think" off her 1968 album "Aretha Now". The legend will live on years after her lifetime.
