The iPhone is among the US electronic good that could be barred from Turkey as part of a new boycott announced by the country's president on Tuesday.

Erdogan has reacted to the financial instability by blaming foreign powers, in particularly the United States, a longtime North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally, which he says is waging an "economic war" as part of a plot to harm Turkey.

The Turkish currency began to recover after authorities this week took steps to help bank liquidity and limit swap transactions. "Our relations with Turkey are not good at this time!" he wrote.

"Turkish-Qatari relations are based on solid foundations of true friendship and solidarity", Kalin added.

"Turkey will emerge stronger from these [currency] fluctuations", Albayrak said in a conference call with thousands of foreign investors.

On Wednesday, Turkey rejected pastor Andrew Craig Brunson's appeal to be released from custody, and slapped additional tariffs on USA imports.

"President Trump's imposition of tariffs on steel and aluminum is about protecting American national security", the spokesperson said.

The Turkish government said tariffs on American cars will be doubled to 120 percent while those on alcoholic drinks will be hiked by the same rate to 140 percent. Fruit, coal, and makeup are also affected.

Vice President Fuat Oktay tweeted that the new tariffs were retaliation for "the deliberate attack of the US administration on our economy", CNN said.

Ex-Trump aide Manafort's defense rests, case headed to jury
Late Monday, Manafort's team also made a motion to dismiss all the charges, saying the government hadn't met its burden of proof. Defence attorneys have so far blamed any wrongdoing on Rick Gates , Manafort's former protege, who testified August 6.

USA electronics like the iPhone may be banned in Turkey after the country's president declared a boycott Tuesday.

"If they have the iPhone, there is Samsung elsewhere".

Turkey doubled tariffs on some us imports, including alcohol, cars and tobacco on Wednesday in retaliation for USA moves, while the lira rallied further after the central bank's liquidity moves had the effect of supporting the currency.

The country's Finance Minister will seek to reassure around 1,000 worldwide investors in a teleconference scheduled for Thursday.

Markets are concerned by Erdogan's influence over the economy and his resistance to interest rate increases to tackle double-digit inflation.

Turkey has suffered the most from the feud, which has helped push its currency, the lira, to record lows against the dollar.

Asian stocks retreated to a one-year low on Wednesday as bearish Chinese markets worsened investor sentiment already hurt by Turkey's financial crisis.

"Qatar has pledged United States dollars 15 billion of direct investments in Turkey", presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin wrote on Twitter yesterday.

"We have stood together and will continue to do so", he said, making clear the high-level meeting was meant to communicate unequivocal support for Turkey at a critical juncture.
