I'm Injured - Celtic's Dedryck Boyata Blasts Refusing To Play Claims

  • Dedryck Boyata has yet to play for Celtic this season

Scott Sinclair responded with a header but it was not enough to prevent Celtic going out of the Champions League at AEK Athens.

That left the player aggrieved at what he felt were broken promises on the part of the club hierarchy, and Brendan Rodgers has already intimated that Boyata may be feigning injury as a way of avoiding playing in the club's crucial Champions League tie with AEK Athens later on this evening.

Within six minutes his side were a goal down through a Rodrigo Galo strike, with Croatian striker Marko Livaja heading in a second five minutes after the break.

"We've got to stop the cross for the first and the second is poor defending", Rodgers said.

Rogic started the game for Celtic but was replaced in the 76th minute.

It was a night to forget for Rodgers and his men, as they lost consecutive competitive matches for the first time since February 2016.

Dropping down to the Europa League, where they will play Latvian side Spartaks Jurmala or Lithuanian side Suduva, is a huge blow for Celtic who will miss out on the prestige - not to mention the vast sums of money - to be earned in the Champions League.

Sutton claimed the club had splashed out on expensive "disco lights" but failed to make the right kind of signings to bolster Brendan Rodgers' squad.

He said: "I think in general, in the game, we played very well but we conceded two soft goals".

"He is a player that has been with us over the last couple of seasons and at this time it would have been great to have him here".

Following a 1-0 first-leg home win, 19-year-old midfielder Gedson Fernandes netted a crucial away goal as they progressed despite Alper Potuk equalising on the night for Fenerbahce.
