The all-rounder shared a sixth-wicket stand of 189 with Jonny Bairstow, who fell seven short of a hundred of his own, to help England to 357-6, a lead of 250, when bad light brought day three to a close.

Now the third has been ticked off. Chris Woakes has a Test century at Lord's.The photocopier, the whistle, the x-ray scanner, even the bicycle bell - Birmingham can lay claim to being the birthplace of countless things, but on day three at Lord's none were more valuable than Woakes.

Together with Jonny Bairstow, Woakes soon set about turning that around.

The disastrous outing on Day 2 left many Indian fans fuming it led to many of them venting their frustrations towards the players on social media.

India, who lost the first Test at Edgbaston by 31 runs, face a huge task to save the match but could have weather on their side with rain predicted to hit London on Sunday.

Bairstow and Jos Buttler went on the offensive immediately after the interval, quickly taking England past India's first innings total, but, while Bairstow remained to inflict further damage on India, Buttler departed for 24, becoming Shami's (3-74) third lbw victim after being beaten for pace as he advanced and moved across his stumps to try and work the ball to leg.

What's done is done, though, and India will look for a disciplined bowling performance to get back into the game.

Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus
One human case of the mosquito-borne illness was confirmed in DE last year, and that was the first such case in two years. Use insect repellent when outdoors; a repellent with DEET or Icaridin offers the most effective protection.

English openers, Alistair Cook and Keyton Jennings, looked in good touch but thanks to some good bowling by Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami both the openers were dismissed within a span of 5 balls.

That brought in new cap Ollie Pope.

But, on 28, Pope missed a straight delivery from Hardik Pandya and had to depart.

India captain Virat Kohli may field the same playing XI for two consecutive Test matches for the first time since he took over as captain in the longer formats in 2014.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (29) then joined Rahane in the middle to add 22 runs for the seventh wicket before the old warhorse James Anderson came back to add more misery to the visitors with the dismissal of the Mumbai batsman. Just before lunch, however, India struck with the vital wicket of the skipper.

The second session will be vital with India still looking to get early wickets to keep England's first-innings lead to a minimum.
