  • Ben Stokes with his wife Clare arriving at Bristol crown court this morning

England cricketer Ben Stokes "could have killed" one of the two men he knocked unconscious during a fight near a nightclub, a court has heard.

Bouncer Andrew Cunningham who was at Mbargo nightclub that night in his statement to the court said that the cricketers arrived at the club after it was closed past 2:00 AM on September 25, 2017.

The video clip shows the sportsman outside Mbargo in Bristol on September 25 past year, just hours after England beat the West Indies.

Ali also described how, as he lay "in the gutter" having allegedly been punched by Stokes, he made a phone call to the council's CCTV office to ensure they had footage of the incident.

Nicholas Corsellis, prosecuting, asked if he saw Mr Hale "put that implement down before he gets to the group?"

The player allegedly made "fun" of two men for their "camp behaviour" and impersonated their hand movements, before flicking the butt of his cigarette at them, the jury heard. I said something like 'leave it out - you shouldn't be taking the piss because they're gay'.

Stokes described how the pair "scuffled" before the other man "grabbed me and pulled me".

Stokes "started to take the mick out of them", mimicking their actions and "high-pitched" voices, he told the court.

"As I was on my own, when I separated two of them more people carried on behind me".

Leaked document: Putin lobbied Trump on arms control
Paul received the letter before leaving Washington and then hand-delivered it to the Russian government, the source said. A Kremlin spokesman confirmed that the letter was delivered and was making its way to Putin.

Footage from her body camera, played to the jury, showed she said to Stokes: "A guy over there was covered in blood and I've been told you punched him".

Ali suffered a fracture to the medial orbital wall on the left side of his face.

Hale, who cycled to hospital, was found to have bruising and a 1.5in cut to his forehead.

Stokes' police interview at the time lasted 21 minutes, and involved two handwritten statements.

PC Stacey Alway, who arrested Stokes, told the court: "From the moment I approached him (Stokes) he calmed down and was compliant". "He said it was because it had been injured, not because of what happened but because he had three operations on it?" I replied, "Thank you very much". He's my best friend.

"I grappled with the second guy, in the course of that I can recall hitting him a few times".

Stokes maintains he was acting in self-defence with one of the investigating police officers confirming both Hale and Ali were holding bottles.

Stokes - who starred on Saturday as England beat India in the first Test at Edgbaston - Ali and Hale each deny a charge of affray.
