Cleveland Browns: 3 surprises from HBO premiere of ‘Hard Knocks’

With Mayfield now getting paid like a future star quarterback, his coach challenges him to commit to it like the veteran he's backing up, Tyrod Taylor.

That's why watching the debut of the 13th season of HBO's "Hard Knocks" on Tuesday got me to wondering when the HBO/NFL docu-series is going to pick the Vikings as the subject of the five-part training camp series that provides incredible inside access. As we've written in this space plenty of times, though, these players are harder to identify on the Browns after the team's offseason roster overhaul. And he has to take his job seriously.

Landry was tweeting during the episode, and here's what he said immediately after his speech aired.

The fridge is stocked with mostly Diet Coke and water. "Not here. Not the Cleveland Browns".

I'm betting that Harrison Smith is a far different person around his teammates than he is when he's got a microphone stuck in his face. "It's a good thing I signed last night". Jackson gets the news from his sister Kimberly on the phone in his office.

At a team meeting later in the show, Hue Jackson then put a picture of Nassib and Swift on the overhead projector for the entire team to see.

Wake Forest assistant basketball coach charged with assault in deadly NYC attack
He was treated for fractures to the left side of his face and the rear of his skull, along with bleeding of the brain. Wake Forest assistant coach Jamill Jones attacked digital marketing guru Sandor Szabo around 1:15 a.m.

"I wouldn't be opposed to it if our organization ... discussed it and we all made a decision to do it", Zimmer told the St. Paul Pioneer Press in June 2014.

A scene later in the episode shows how Jackson is determined to stay focused on work even as word gets out around the team.

"I've lost my brother and my mom in the same month, within two weeks of each other".

But that doesn't mean they won't be a compelling team to follow for Hard Knocks.

Whether it's the arrival of Jarvis Landry, the non-arrival of Josh Gordon, the season-ending surgery for Ricardo Louis or Sunday's trade of former first-round pick Corey Coleman, there's no shortage of content available from the Browns wide receiving corps. How could you not be fired up after hearing that?

Check out the final trailer in the video embedded below and catch the first episode tonight at 10pm ET on HBO.
