  • Disney Can't Show Star Wars Movies On TV, Is Reportedly Trying To Get Rights Back

Walt Disney Co.is suffering from seller's remorse.

Disney will be launching their own streaming service next year. Netflix has the rights to new releases like The Force Awakens and Rogue One, but not the older films and Disney doesn't plan to renew that deal.

This surprising wrinkle of seller's remorse in the Mouse House comes from Bloomberg, which cites anonymous sources to report that Disney attempted to repurchase the television broadcast and online streaming rights to the first six Star Wars movies from Turner Broadcasting. Turner has the rights to show the films on its cable networks, which include TNT and TBS, and online until 2024.

Pinoys in Bangladesh asked to stay safe amid nationwide student protests
Dhaka's additional deputy commissioner of police Obaidur Rahman said Alam was picked up for questioning, but gave no details. A group of pro-government students attacked the student protestors with sticks, rods, stones, and pistols, said the report.

The "Star Wars" films are among the highest grossing in Hollywood, and content from the space saga figures to be a bedrock part of a new Disney streaming service that's expected to debut next year.

Disney is reportedly trying to buy back the rights, but it seems Turner isn't budging - at least, not without some hefty concessions from Disney. I can't tell you, but if I had to guess I'd say they want people to watch the movies on their cable stations. So there's still a chance an upcoming streaming service could have all of the Star Wars movies. The deal not only encompasses the Original Trilogy from 1977-1983 and Prequel Trilogy from 1999-2005, but also the current films from the Disney years (Force Awakens, Last Jedi, Rogue One, Solo) up-to and including anything now in production through 2024. In 2016, Turner paid a sum of $275 million for the movies.

Disney has already said it won't renew a deal with Netflix that gave the company rights to new releases, including four "Star Wars" titles.
