City of Lies, the big-screen thriller starring Johnny Depp as an LAPD detective investigating the unsolved murder of the rapper Notorious B.I.G., has been pulled from Global Road's release schedule a month before its planned wide release on September 7.

The film's loss of a guaranteed release date comes as the latest blow to the actor who was once one of Hollywood's most bankable stars. The film, co-starring Forest Whitaker, follows Depp as an LAPD detective named Russell Pool as he attempts to investigate the still unsolved murder of B.I.G.in 1997, just six months after the death of his rival, Tupac Shakur. It was directed by Brad Furman (The Infiltrator) from a script by Christian Contreras, based on the book by Randall Sullivan. He has faced a number of legal and financial woes, recently granting a wide-ranging interview to Rolling Stone that showcased the actor's decline.

Williams previously logged 321 days in orbit on two stays aboard the space station, most recently returning to the Earth in 2012. Since then, they have been in a race to see which company would fly first in what's become a sort of modern-day space race.

Despite the uncertain fate of City of Lies, Depp's presence doesn't look to derail the opening of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald later this fall, in which Depp plays Gellert Grindelwald. Last month, location manager Greg "Rocky" Brooks filed suit against Depp for allegedly hurling obscenities at and punching him. Additionally, a crewmember on City of Lies claims Depp punched him twice, then lost his job when he refused to promise that he wouldn't sue over the matter. He made a surprise cameo at Comic-Con last month in full costume amid speculation he would skip it over the aforementioned controversies.

Depp, who faced accusations of domestic violence in his divorce from Amber Heard, a year ago generated controversy for another film he's attached to, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald".
