Finally deciding to change his life, the Guinness World Record holder (for the "longest fingernails on a single hand") flew to NY to seek aid from a doctor. The Guardian says the teacher told Chillal that he wouldn't understand what it meant to protect a nail unless he grew them himself.
The 82-year-old Indian man told Sky News he started growing out his nails when he was 14.

Ripley's said it was privileged to display the "unique and one-of-a-kind" exhibit.
His right hand's nails were trimmed so that he could work and do daily tasks. "Mr. Chillal dedicated his life to something truly remarkable and Ripley's is the flawless home to honor his legacy", Ripley's Suzanne Smagala-Potts, said. He cannot open his hand out from a closed position or flex his fingers, as you can see in this picture. His nails didn't stop him from leading a normal life, however.
He admitted there were also perks to having the world's longest nails that he will miss. "He approached us when he was ready to cut his nails", Ripley's spokesperson Suzanne Smagala-Potts told Gizmodo.
