On Friday, May and Trump will hold talks on Brexit, relations with Russian Federation, and trade ties at the prime minister's Chequers country residence, followed by a press conference.

May has said Trump's visit is an opportunity to boost trade links between the United States and the UK amid Britain leaving the European Union.

As Trump is expected to discuss a possible post-Brexit trade deal and other global issues with May, organizers of Friday's demonstrations say there is no shortage of issues that will inspire mass numbers of people to attend.

"Our trade and investment relationship is unrivalled - we are the largest investors in each other's economies and every day a million British people go to work for U.S. companies in the United Kingdom and a million Americans go to work for United Kingdom companies in the U.S.", May said.

During a press conference in Brussels after the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit, Mr. Trump appeared to criticize Ms.

GETTYMr Trump's first formal visit to Britain as US President. "They all made commitments, and they will be up to 2 percent over a relatively short period". "I believe that the people in the UK, Scotland, Ireland, as you know I have property in Ireland, I have property all over, I think that those people they like me a lot and they agree with me on immigration", he said.

Protests are expected at every stop Trump makes along the way, including a caricature blimp of him as a baby holding a smartphone flown near Parliament on Friday.

Hundreds of placard-waving protesters gathered outside both Winfield House and Blenhein Palace late Thursday, but extensive cordons kept them far from Trump.

In Scottish opinion polls, Trump has had consistently low poll numbers, placing dead last in a 2017 rating of leaders with a 20.1 out of 100.

While Mr Johnson may now be a backbencher, Mr Trump said he hoped he would still see the former foreign minister - another blow to the fragile position of Mrs May.

Trump's trip is part of a working visit and not a state visit, an invitation to which was extended to him personally by May just days after his inauguration.

Later, Trump will take tea with Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle, a home to the royals for 1,000 years, part of a tour created to keep him away from protesters.

On Friday he will visit PM Theresa May at Chequers, set to be followed by a meeting with Her Majesty The Queen at Windsor Castle. "I think meeting with people is great".

"There is definitely a sense that Britain needs America more because of Brexit", said Bronwen Maddox, head of the Institute for Government, a think tank.

British law requires any petition supported by more than 100,000 people to be considered for parliamentary debate, even though there was no serious attempt to prohibit Mr. Trump from coming to Britain.

The trip includes meetings with Prime Minister Theresa May, who has described the United States as Britain's strongest ally, and is determined to secure a trade deal after the country acts on Brexit and leaves the European Union in March 2019.

The President is also due to travel to Scotland, where he owns two golf courses and Scotland's interim police chief has said more than 5,000 officers would be needed for to cover the trip, including specialist riot and armed units.
