Multiple UK Resignations Over Brexit Crisis, No Clear Path Forward

Theresa May has moved to shore up her position following the shock resignation of Boris Johnson with the appointment of Jeremy Hunt as the new Foreign Secretary.

Leavers who try to stop the prime minister's "soft Brexit" risk wrecking the whole process of withdrawal and toppling the government, Mr Davies said.

May announced on Friday that her warring Cabinet had finally agreed to a plan to follow European Union rules for trade in goods, raising hopes that long-stalled talks with the bloc could progress.

There appears to be no immediate challenge to Ms May's leadership, as the Brexit hardliners simply do not have the numbers, and her Conservative Party seems set to weather this storm, despite deep divisions on the issue.

In a scathing resignation letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Johnson said that, under her leadership, the United Kingdom was "heading for a semi-Brexit", with the dream of an outward-looking global Britain "dying, suffocated by needless self-doubt".

May has briefed leaders including EU President Donald Tusk and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on her plan and reported a positive response, although they are awaiting the detail. Britain and the European Union have agreed on a transition period until December 2020, but installing new technology and procedures could take longer than that.

"I think Theresa May's premiership is over", she said. "It s a good thing that we have proposals on the table".

In his resignation letter to May, Davis said of May's strategy, "This is a complex area of judgment, and it is possible that you are right and I am wrong".

"I don t see them pulling the plug on her", Polly Mackenzie, director of cross-party think-tank Demos, told AFP. "The direct consequences of that will be Prime Minister Corbyn".

Saul said that the general sentiment right now is "confusion and uncertainty", with numerous company's clients purchasing gold anxious that Theresa May, pictured above left, could be ousted out of office and replaced with someone in support of a hard Brexit.

He said in a video on Twitter: "Look we lost fine to a good team". You are just nitpicking a bad performance. "It hurts. I don't know what else to say".

May has said she will fight off any attempt to unseat her.

When asked directly if Trump would meet Boris, U.S. Ambassador Woody Johnson told BBC Radio: "Is he going to make time?"

"And I think without David Davis there, without his imprimatur, it will be very hard for them to get the support of Conservative MPs and therefore the Prime Minister would be well advised to reconsider them".

Conservative lawmaker Michael Fallon, an ally of May, dismissed Johnson's "Brexit dream" rallying cry.

"Unfortunately his contribution to the development of bilateral ties with Russian Federation was rather modest, to put it mildly", President Vladimir Putin s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab is insisting the Government's new European Union withdrawal proposals stay true to the referendum result while backing business.

He told the Today programme: "If the Prime Minister thinks she has consent and support from every member of her Cabinet she is deluding herself, as we have just seen".

Under the plans, Britain would stick to a "common rulebook" with the European Union for goods and agricultural products in return for free trade, without tariffs or border customs checks.

The Survation poll of 1,007 people found 38 percent felt the Brexit proposals agreed by the cabinet at May's country retreat of Chequers last week were a sell-out while 35 percent felt them to be the best deal Britain was likely to get.
