Trump eyes USA dominance in space with 6th branch of armed forces

  • Directive signed

In speaking to the National Space Council Monday morning, President Trump directed the Pentagon and the Department of Defense to create a military "Space Force".

The president characterized his own announcement as a "big statement", and added that the Space Force and the Air Force will be considered "separate but equal". The other U.S. military branches are the Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Corps. In a letter last summer to Republican Rep. Mike Turner of OH, who spearheaded the congressional effort against a separate space force, Mattis said he was opposed to the idea. But professor and space policy expert John Logsdon of George Washington University says the treaty would not prohibit the creation of a proposed Space Force.

The idea of a Space Force has been raised before, by Trump and previous administrations, with proponents saying it would make the Pentagon more efficient. This isn't enough for the United States president who said: "Our destiny beyond the Earth is not only a matter of national identity but a matter of national security". The president also signed Space Policy Directive-2 in May of this year to reform United States commercial space regulatory framework, seeking to ensure our place as a leader in space commerce. The newly reconvened Space Council is helmed by Vice President Mike Pence. But it is likely to raise fears over the militarisation of space and prompted a slew of Twitter parodies featuring Star Trek and Star Wars. The name? Space Force.

The decision of the American president must in principle be approved by the US Congress, which is divided on the issue. "However, the space operating environment is becoming increasingly congested and current space traffic management activities are inadequate to address this rising challenge", said Mr. "This time, we will not only plant our flag and leave our footprints - we will establish a foundation for an eventual mission to Mars, and perhaps someday, too many worlds beyond".

The defender gave away a penalty for handling the ball during the match, and has now made fun of the situation. Australia is not a European team, but that doesn't mean they don't have quality.

The President also added that the USA will soon send humans to the Moon and also revealed that the Mars colonization plans are also going on steadily.

Dubbed a "space traffic management policy", the new directive is created to handle the growing amount of debris in orbit around the Earth.

Trump had previously suggested the possibility of creating a space unit that would include portions equivalent to parts of the Air Force, Army and Navy. Just go ahead. If you beat us to Mars, we'll be very happy, and you'll be even more famous, he said.
