Russia's Putin would be ready to host G7 in Moscow

  • Donald Trump calls for end to Russian expulsion from G7 grouping

Commenting on the G-7's statement, Putin said: "It's time to stop that chatter and deal with real issues". In Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying that Russia is "focusing its attention on formats other than the Group of Seven". The Skripals were in critical condition for weeks before recovering.

Appearing on Rossiya-1's Saturday News with Sergei Brilev show on Saturday, Putin said that Trump, during his election campaign, had promised to improve ties with Moscow.

The call threatens to further strain what was shaping up to be a tough summit for the G7, whose members have also been clashing with the Trump administration over a looming trade war.

"Something happened a while ago where Russian Federation is no longer in", Trump said.

RUSSIAN President Vladimir Putin today said he was ready to meet his United States counterpart Donald Trump as soon as Washington was ready, adding Vienna could be a possible venue for such a summit.

"Whether you like it or - and it may not be politically correct - but we have a world to run and in the G7, which used to be the G8 they threw Russian Federation out, they should let Russian Federation come back in", Trump said upon his arrival in La Malbaie, the small town in Quebec that is hosting the weekend's summit.

Putin said he shares Trump's expression of concern about a renewed arms race expressed in a March phone call.

Coming in the shadow of the G7, the emphasis of Putin's visit is to deepen the political and economic partnership, and this trip has the bonus of meeting fellow SCO leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan, and the observer states of Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, and Mongolia.

The remarks were made during the 18th annual summit of SCO, an eight-member grouping led by Beijing and Moscow - in the coastal city of Qingdao.

Xi also presented Putin with China's first "friendship medal", calling him a "good and old friend of the Chinese people" during a live broadcast on state television.

The Russian leader says Trump is a 'thoughtful person'.

In the context of this week's Singapore summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, North Korea has been a significant theme of Putin's dialogue with Xi this weekend.

Putin noted that Russian Federation and China have emphasized the need for talks to reduce tensions.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has criticised the United States for "imposing its policies on the rest of the world".

Putin said that Washington's decision to exit the agreement could "destabilize the situation" in the region.

That's why he sees it as such a great and brilliant victory that he pulled us out of a series of worldwide agreements: the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Paris Climate Accord, the Iran nuclear agreement.

Trump pulled out of the 2015 Obama-era accord last month, despite objections from European allies and other nations.
