Kudlow had been negotiating nicely with Trudeau at the summit in Quebec and the U.S. had agreed to join the joint communique, but Trump pulled out after he felt betrayed by Trudeau's news conference where the prime minister called Trump's tariffs on Canadian aluminum and steel exports "insulting".

At his news conference, Trudeau said Canada would take retaliatory measures next month in response to Trump's decision to slap tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union.

The statement that Trump reneged on was also signed by the heads of government of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan, all of which have also been hit by the U.S. tariffs of 25 percent on imported steel and 10 percent on aluminum.

Trump is being accused by some of upending "two days of global economic diplomacy" after he tweeted that the United States should not sign the G7 Communique that Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said had been agreed upon in Quebec.

"I will always protect Canadian workers and Canadian interests", Trudeau said.

"The New York Times notes that in a press conference Saturday afternoon, ".Mr. Trudeau said the seven nations had reached broad agreements on a range of economic and foreign policy goals.

Kudlow said Trudeau had "really kind of stabbed us in the back".

Following his departure from the summit, Trump said on social media he had "great meetings and relationships" with the six other G-7 leaders.

Navarro added that Trudeau's move was "one of the worst political miscalculations of a Canadian leader in modern Canadian history".

President Trump's senior trade advisor, Peter Navarro, had even worse criticism of Trudeau.

At the start of last season, Trump exhorted NFL owners to fire players who take a knee during the national anthem. Clinton provided more than four hours of videotaped sworn testimony in the Washington office of his attorney.

"Canadians are polite and reasonable but we will also not be pushed around", he said.

He told the G7 leaders during the summit that the U.S. wanted a quick end to trade practices that he said have led to an exodus of American companies and jobs to other countries.

Also in response, Larry Kudlow, director of the White House's National Economic Council, said on Sunday in an interview with CNN that Trudeau betrayed Trump with "polarizing" statements on USA trade policy.

Donald Trump and the White House are going after Justin Trudeau for this G-7 remarks over US tariffs.

Trump reacted swiftly onboard Air Force One as it traveled to Singapore for the historic U.S.

"We're like the piggy bank that everybody's robbing, and that ends", Trump said in a press conference Saturday, prior to his decision to withdraw from the communique.

In her own tweet, Green Party leader Elizabeth May says Trudeau is handling what she calls Trump's outbursts and bullying as well as anyone, and that all Canadian leaders need to support the prime minister. "We have a bad actor in ZTE.President (Donald Trump) did this as a personal favor to the president of China as a way of showing some good will".

Trump also backtracked on his previous agreement to endorse the G7 communique, leaving the USA off the joint statement released by six other world leaders addressing issues like trade cooperation and Iran's nuclear program.

"I have made it very clear to the President that it is not something that we relish doing, but it is absolutely something that we will do".
