Rafael Nadal into French Open finals against Dominic Thiem

  • Rafael Nadal's French Open set streak ends in quarterfinals

Both men knew that full well.

Rafael Nadal is now just the second man to reach 11 finals at the same Slam, equalling Roger Federer's mark at Wimbledon.

The fifth seed, playing in his first Roland Garros semi-final in nine years, had three break points in the third game and three more in the ninth.

On Sunday, Nadal will face No. 7 seed Dominic Thiem, a 24-year-old Austrian who reached his first Grand Slam final by ending the surprising run of 72nd-ranked Marco Cecchinato of Italy 7-5, 7-6 (10), 6-1.

"Sometimes you play better, sometimes you are more nervous". "I have a plan and".

"It was someone who made a loud [sound] before my serve, and I made [a] double fault", Del Potro said.

The plan is for Nadal to practice for one hour on Saturday morning and then rest all afternoon, Moya told Spanish radio station Cope.

"Unfortunately, I was not able to convert my break points".

"You know when you start the clay court season that Dominic, he's one of these players that have the chance to win every tournament that he's playing, and maybe even more here in Roland Garros because he's strong physically". If he wins the game, OK.

"This extra thing I have to give, I feel I have it inside me, but I have to go and get it".

'But I'm also aware that here it's tougher.

Schwartzman compiled a 20-4 edge in winners for the set, closing it with a forehand that landed right at the baseline.

Friday will be the second time Nadal and Del Potro meet at Roland Garros. However, after the game, Nadal revealed that he was struggling against Del Potro in the first set.

Lawrence made it clear, in a February interview with shock jock Howard Stern, that she was on the lookout for a new man. I don't think that you can have any sort of bad relationship with anybody if you're just blunt".

"I think that was my chance of the match", del Potro said of the break points he held at 4-all in the opening set of Nadal's 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 blitz.

"I need to regenerate and have a good breakfast to keep up my good level".

Too good for almost everyone, nearly every time, on clay.

They tried their best to rouse their man in the third set but it was mission impossible as Nadal, clubbing the ball as if his life depended on it, finished like a raging bull as he headed into his 24th Grand Slam final. He is also convinced that Thiem will not come out "as flat" as he did in last year's semifinal, which came after Thiem had defeated Djokovic in the quarterfinals.

"If I want to beat him, I have to play that way like I did in Rome and in Madrid", said the number eight seed.

Romania's Simona Halep will first play American Sloane Stephens in the women's singles final tomorrow.

One of those was a 6-3, 6-4, 6-0 rout in the Roland Garros semi-finals 12 months ago.

Cecchinato's career has been tainted by his involvement in a match-fixing scandal; he was banned for 18 months in 2016 before having the suspension overturned.

However, those victories were in best-of-three-set contests and Thiem has never conquered Nadal in a five-setter.

Nadal broke Thiem in his first service game to give the 10-time champion an early 2-0 lead in the first set.

"The first set was very hard, with too many chances for Juan Martin", Nadal said.

Thiem had to weather three set points for Cecchinato, at 7-6, 9-8 and 10-9. Thiem got to 10-all with a drop shot of his own.
