Mitch McConnell Cancels Senate's August Recess

A senior Senate Democratic aide complained that canceling the recess will keep off the campaign trail several Democrats who are locked in tough campaigns for reelection during the November 6 midterms. "Instead of shoring up our health care system and driving down costs, President Trump and Republicans have sabotaged our healthcare system and driven up costs".

McConnell was under enormous pressure from his own caucus as well as the president to cancel as much of the recess as possible, but the majority leader also saw an opportunity to unite Republicans and annoy incumbent Democrats. He publicly pushed his support Wednesday morning in a press conference, talking about the toll of "uncertainty" around the health care system following Republican's failed attempt to repeal the 2010 health care law a year ago.

"I hope we'll get greater cooperation, but everybody should anticipate that we will be here", he told reporters.

McConnell said, "The bottom line is clear: Under the policies of this unified Republican government, American workers, families, and business owners are achieving economic growth that is unmatched in recent memory".

"None of us want to go up (against Trump)".

"Working through August gives us the flawless opportunity to tackle this pressing issue of health care", Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY said Tuesday.

"Senators should expect to remain in session in August to pass legislation, including appropriations bills, and to make additional progress on the president's nominees", he added.

Corker's trying to hitch the legislation to a big annual defense bill making its way through the Senate that includes must-pass pay raises for the troops and other provisions.

Muguruza dominates Sharapova, Halep also into French Open semifinals
Simona Halep has reached her third French Open final and held on to the world No.1 spot with victory over Garbine Muguruza . Muguruza essentially got that round off, too: Her opponent, Lesia Tsurenko, quit with an injury after only two games.

There are eight days of session left for this legislative year, which means people are coming out in droves to the Capitol to make sure their bills see a vote.

Congress' August recess normally is closely guarded as a time for lawmakers to take foreign "fact-finding" trips, campaign for re-election and ramp up campaign fundraising operations.

The Tennessee senator said he believes Republicans can face the heat on issue because of prior public discontent with the 2010 health care law. "And I think he deserves some latitude in terms of doing that", Kennedy said. "I do not plan on going anywhere, at any point, in August". He and Texas Sen. "Until we can have reciprocal relationships, we will not have free trade, we will not have fair trade", Kudlow said.

"A lot of senators are a lot braver since they're not on the ballot".

McConnell emphasized during his interview with Ingraham the Senate is "going to be here, confirming the president's nominees" while staying put in the nation's capital.

"It seems my friends on the other side of the aisle want to have their obstruction cake and eat it too", the Utah senator said.

As president, Donald Trump has insulted USA allies and top Republicans, threatened nuclear war on Twitter, shared top-secret intelligence with Russian Federation, and pushed immigration policies that are ripping apart families and damaging the US's image overseas.

Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said she and the GOP leadership agreed that Tuesday would be the day when Democrats could present their long-awaited amendment to enact the women's reproductive health act. "I look forward to working through August to confirm more".
