American, German and Russian astronauts were on board. The big idea is less government and more private investment.

Private companies like SpaceX, Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, Boeing, Bigelow Airspace, and Lockheed Martin have outdone governments and embarked on what Futurism referred to as Space Race 2.0.

Twenty-six percent of Americans have a great deal of confidence that private companies will be able to build safe and reliable spacecraft, and 23 percent don't have too much confidence, or have no confidence at all.

"In the future, Roscosmos intends to integrate videos from onboard video cameras into most launch companies to popularize space exploration", the statement reads. Some 29% of this group says they would go so that they can see the view of Earth from space, while 20% want to "learn more about the world".

The NASA live stream comes days after the United States space agency broadcasted the return of Expedition 55 Commander Anton Shkaplerov, flight engineer Scott Tingle and Norishige Kanai of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency touching back on Earth.

Interest in orbiting the Earth is greater among younger generations and among men. Across all generations, men are more likely than women (51% vs. 33%) to say they are interested in traveling into space as tourists.

A new survey examined Americans' sentiment on the space program with a number of surprising results.

Across nine specific NASA missions, the majority of participants believe the priority should be monitoring key parts of the Earth's climate system or monitoring asteroids and other objects that could hit Earth. Only 31 percent say that the search for alien life and life-supporting planets is top priority, while 42 percent believe it's low priority, and 27 percent believe it's not important or should not be done.
