  • Washington apple farmers brace for impact after Mexico imposes tariffs on U.S. imports

In a heated phone call on May 25, President Donald Trump reportedly told Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that his administration's new aluminum and steel tariffs on Canada were because Canada had "burned down the White House".

Prime Minister Theresa May is among the G7 leaders who have criticised the U.S. president for not exempting the European Union and Canada from his new tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.

That's because Trudeau and Macron are expected to reiterate their previous messaging at the G7 summit, and claim that Trump's tariffs will hurt American workers and damage the U.S.' image internationally.

Both Macron and Trudeau went out of their way to stress the close ties between their own countries.

"Her conclusion as I see it has been has been to try to stick to the policies and to keep the partners on these policies together, and eventually see whether the United States would want to stay with its positions or come around at some point".

"I have no doubt that the United States and Canada will remain firm friends and allies whatever short-term disagreements may occur", Kudlow said.

Canada in particular has been outraged by Trump's tariffs, taking umbrage at the argument that they were motivated by national security concerns. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe wants to ensure that the US puts his nation's security concerns front and center as talks with Kim Jong Un move forward.

Macron has previously accused China of pursuing hegemony in Asia.

New Apple tools to help parents manage kids’ screen time
The iPhone X's Animoji feature gained a few new characters, but all of the attention is on a new feature called Memoji . The rest are various upgrades to existing features like parental controls, Siri, FaceTime, Notifications and more .

President Donald Trump has angered traditional American allies by slapping them with tariffs and pulling the United States out of global agreements such as the Paris climate agreement and the Iran nuclear deal.

"There will be subjects on which the (U.S.) president is not totally in sync with the others - I'm thinking of course of climate change and trade", the French leader said.

However, he argued that other countries should be ready to have a "G6 plus one" outcome, sticking to a text that enshrines their common values, even if Trump does not sign it. They may also seek redress through legal action at the World Trade Organization.

Last June, U.S. formalized its withdrawal from the Paris climate change accord.

"We are all engaged in conflicts in Syria, in Iraq, in the Sahel, in different places in the world".

One of CNN's sources told reporters it was unclear if the comment was interpreted as a joke by Trudeau, saying, "To the degree one can ever take what is said as a joke". As a Cold War-era safeguard, the law permitted a broad "national security" exception, similar to the one in the WTO.

"Prime Minister Trudeau is being so indignant, bringing up the relationship that the USA and Canada had over the many years and all sorts of other things", Trump said in a tweet on Thursday.

Trudeau said he has been "blunt" in private conversations with Trump and said the two-day G7 gathering is a chance for more "frank" discussions.
