  • Intel pulls a surprise with 28-core CPU at Computex

AMD also announced that its first 7nm parts will be Vega GPUs that will power its Radeon Instinct family of accelerators.

"We made a bet on 7nm", Lisa Su says at the AMD Computex event. The Vega microarchitecture released a year ago in the form of the Vega 56 and Vega 64 not only failed to match inflated expectations, but graphics cards based on the GPUs also fell short of matching - let alone beating - Nvidia's top-of-the-range offerings.

Last year, AMD's Threadripper blew the doors off Intel's HEDT business by offering far more CPU cores at a much lower overall price.

"As excited as we are about the 7nm Radeon Instinct GPU, for all of you gamers out there, we are definitely bringing 7nm GPUs to gaming as well". Due back sometime this month, the firm will begin sampling in the latter half of the year before moving its EPYC line over to the shrunken die and launching the new server-based processors in 2019. "Those are tied together with AMD's Infinity fabric that allows those four die to act like one monster processor working altogether", said AMD senior vice president and general manager of computing and graphics, Jim Anderson.

Turkey draws against Russian Federation in friendly match
Iran lost 2:1 to Turkey in their last friendly on May 28, and have one last World Cup warm up against Lithuania on June 8. The World Cup's final match will take place at the very same venue on July 15.

Furthermore, the device has been built to a 7nm process and is intended for graphics cards with 32GB of HBM2 - rather than GDDR5X or GDDR6 - memory. Rumors are the post-Navi GPU will be the first post-GCN architecture as well, though what that will entail is impossible to say.

The good news is that 2020 Next Gen 7nm+ is most likely a high end part and that AMD may actually make a gaming GPU out of it.

The other major product in development for 7nm is AMD's Zen 2 processors. It also showed off 12-nanometer second-generation Ryzen Threadripper processors with up to 32 cores, slated for launch in the third quarter. AMD also upped the stakes with volumetric lighting in a second run with a 32-core version machine as well, but didn't invite the Intel chip along for comparison's sake that time around.
