  • Obama Didn't Act on Russian Meddling to Help Clinton Win, Says Trump

President Donald Trump on Tuesday ramped up his assaults on particular counsel Robert Mueller's crew in a sequence of tweets, accusing them of meddling with the upcoming midterm election.

The special counsel's appointment has resulted in a flurry of activity over the a year ago, including 75 criminal charges, five guilty pleas and one person has already been sentenced to 30 days in prison for lying to investigators.

Republicans risk losing control of the House and possibly the Senate in this year's midterms as Democrats continue to feel emboldened by Trump's unpopularity. "Comey ... If you interpret that as obstructing the investigation, as opposed to removing a guy who was doing a bad job, on the recommendation, in part, of (Deputy Attorney General Rod) Rosenstein, but you see it as obstructing the investigation, then you can say it is obstruction", Giuliani told CNN.

She believed Mueller's team would not agree to limit the interview to only two topics, and that Giuliani's claim that obstruction of justice was "up to interpretation" was incorrect.

But in a Tuesday morning tweetstorm, the president effectively argued that the probe is already threatening to interfere in the vote - and questioned again why the team is not investigating "totally Crooked Hillary Clinton" and Democrats.

"It's a Rigged Witch Hunt", Trump declared, questioning why prosecutors were not investigating his 2016 challenger, "the totally Crooked Campaign of totally Crooked Hillary Clinton".

Trump tweets he wishes he picked someone other than Sessions for AG
Sessions recused himself in March 2017 from any investigation related to Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. Trump's previous lawyers had predicted the investigation would wrap up by the end of 2017.

Trump has repeatedly claimed Mueller's investigation is a partisan effort to undermine his administration, which he often calls a "witch hunt". "He knows exactly what he did and what he didn't do, and he's been very clear from day one that there was no collusion".

He also asked his Republican party colleagues to be on alert in the months ahead of the November general elections.as he feels that the Democrats would be meddling into the mid-term elections later this year. By default, that effort would have helped Mr Trump, but Mr Mueller is looking into whether Trump associates played a more active role.

"Donald Trump won", Swalwell said.

Trump tweeted Thursday: "Not that it matters but I never fired James Comey because of Russian Federation!"

Sessions recused himself for possible conflict of interest, leading to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller.

Later Tuesday morning, Trump appeared to be taking guidance from some of his advisers and supporters to heart, saying he needed to focus more of his attention on issues important to Americans and less on the Russian Federation investigation. His lawyer, meanwhile, blasted federal investigators as "a lynching mob" the Trump team will "knock the heck out of" in the end.
