  • Two police officers and another person were shot and killed at a Belgian cafe

A gunman killed two police officers and a passerby on Tuesday before being shot dead in Belgium's Liege city, the country's public broadcaster RTBF reported. No students were injured. "The individual has been neutralized".

He said the man attacked the two officers from behind with a knife, took one of their guns and shot them both dead.

National media outlet VTM News also claims some witnesses allegedly heard the suspect, described as a man in his forties carrying two weapons, shout the Islamic war cry. The attacker was later killed by police.

Benjamin Herman, 36 years old and a Belgian citizen, was neutralized during a shootout with police after having killed three people with a gun that he had seized from an officer.

A man shot dead two police officers and a passer-by in the Belgian city of Liège on Tuesday in what prosectors are treating as a terrorist attack.

But the crisis centre confirmed it was looking into whether terrorism might have been a motive, and an official at the Belgian federal prosecutor's office told The Associated Press "there are indications" that the shooting could be a terrorist attack.

He shot dead a 22-year-old trainee teacher who was sitting in a vehicle before entering a high school about 100 metres (yards) away and taking two female employees hostage.

US to impose limits on some Chinese visas
The NRF cited a study which estimated the tariffs on $50 billion in Chinese imports could shave $3 billion off of US GDP and eliminate 134,000 jobs.

Initial reports suggested he shot them after being stopped for a document check, however prosecutors now say he crept up behind them, and then cut their throats with a knife, while also stabbing them numerous times.

Eric Van Der Sypt, spokesman for the Belgian federal prosecutor's office, told AFP there were "elements that point in the direction that this is a terrorist act".

Police told the BBC the attacker had been "neutralised" and that the situation is now under control.

The Belgian Royal Palace tweeted, "Our thoughts are with the victims of the awful incident in Liege".

Prime Minister Michel and King Philippe visited Liege, the biggest city in Belgium's French-speaking Wallonia region. "We are in the process of establishing an overview of exactly what happened", Jambon wrote on Twitter.
