Iran's supreme leader has challenged United States president Donald Trump over America pulling out of the nuclear deal, saying: "You can not do a damn thing".

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said Trump's speech was silly and superficial and contained 10 lies.

In the hearing on Wednesday, Mattis said Trump's decision to withdraw from the deal had not been a hasty one.

"It is important that the progress made over many years of negotiation should not be lost".

The deal asks Iran to limit its nuclear program in return for the lifting of economic sanctions the worldwide community imposed on the country. "And so the sense that the USA is the one that's isolated here when normally it's Iran that feels isolated, I think that potentially could be helpful [for Rouhani]". They remain committed to the accord and urged Iran to do the same.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, whose standing at home risks being undermined by the deal's collapse, was furious, accusing Trump of "psychological warfare". Although the Iran deal that just ended was focused on limiting Iran's nuclear weapons and related nuclear programs, the watchdog group also highlighted how they had filed an FOIA lawsuit with the State Department and the Treasury Department for "info on the Obama Admin's secretive transfer of $400 million in cash (part of $1.7 billion) to the regime in Iran".

"If the regime continues its nuclear aspirations, it will have bigger problems than it has ever had before", he warned.

At the end of May, le Maire will meet British and German finance ministers to also look at "what we can do in response to these USA decisions on extraterritoriality", the minister said, adding that "It is urgent to go from words to deeds".

"The snap-back of US sanctions will have a major effect on shipowners and their insurers and Skuld and the IG are closely monitoring developments", Skuld said on its website. And he added, "I don't trust these three countries", Britain, France and Germany.

Mattarella is due to meet Di Maio at 4:30 pm local time and a delegation of the League at 6:00 pm. Together they will be able to hold a majority in both houses.

"We're out of the deal. There's an American withdrawal from the deal but the deal is still there", he said.

But officials are privately skeptical about how long it can survive, particularly if the United States imposes sanctions on European companies doing business in Iran. And what is our backup plan or plan B?

Iran is entirely right to condemn Trump's action.

Michael Rubin, an Iran expert at the American Enterprise Institute, said the USA invasion of Iraq under George W. Bush was one factor in the regime's thinking. Saudi Arabia, through its official news agency, said it would work to "mitigate" any market disruptions that would come from any oil shortage triggered by the snap back of Iranian sanctions.

Trump's decision offers him a domestic political victory, fulfilling a longstanding campaign promise and underscoring his no-nonsense political brand.

She acknowledged that it is uncertain "to what extent we can keep this (nuclear) agreement alive if a giant economic power doesn't join in".

China said on Wednesday it "regrets" the decision by the United States to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal, and Beijing will continue its commitment to safeguard and implement the deal, the Foreign Ministry said.

In contrast, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was overjoyed.

While American allies have erupted with concern over the potential fallout over abandoning the old deal, Team Trump has offered precious few details into how a new one might be reached.
