Air France plans to operate 80% of its flights on May 8, the 15th in a series of day-long strikes over pay that have rocked the carrier and led to the resignation of Air France-KLM group CEO Jean-Marc Janaillac after employees voted against his pay proposal plan.
During Janaillac's tenure, Air France-KLM struck deals with Delta Air Lines DAL.N and China Eastern 600115.SS , which each acquired stakes of just under 9 percent.
Before that, the President of Air France and CEO of Air France-KLM, Jean-Marc Janaillac, resigned, as he had promised in the case his proposal did not obtain the support of the workers. There have also been strikes at the state-owned SNCF rail company.
The group's share price has halved this year as it faces increasing competition from low-priced rivals and deep-pocketed Middle Eastern airlines, as well as the prospect of a sustained higher oil price.
In a statement on its website, Air France said scheduled flights will be disrupted per "due to the confirmation of the strike of several Air France staff unions for Monday and Tuesday".
Monday's walk-out is the 14th day of action, as staff press for a 5.1% salary increase this year.
Profits at the Dutch sister company KLM, which has succeeded in cutting costs, rose in the first quarter, contrasting with losses at Air France. However, the French government assured that it will not be responsible for the company's losses.
Staff and management at the carrier have been locked in a dispute over pay since February.
France's economy minister on Sunday warned that the survival of Air France was now in the balance.
Mr Le Maire appealed "to the sense of responsibility of each of the air crew, ground staff, pilots who are asking for unjustified wage increases" but also warned that the French government should not be expected to backstop the company.
Bruno Le Maire's warning that Air France could "disappear" comes as staff begin another round of industrial action over a pay dispute.
"I will not explain to the French that we will.absorb the losses of Air France while Air France does not make the necessary competitive efforts to be at the same level as its major European competitor".
